Refurbishment Meets Digital Identity: Envie Joins the DPP Project

A Digital Product Passport is only as powerful as the ecosystem behind it. That’s why the recent arrival of Envie, a leading reuse and refurbishment network, marks a major milestone in the deployment of DPPs for electrical and electronic equipment.

This move also builds on a first pilot with Fnac Darty, where second-hand appliances were already equipped with DPPs — a foundational step that paved the way for today’s scale-up.

From creation to second life, the Digital Product Passport is expanding its reach — and Envie is now helping to write its next chapter.

A New Partner with Circular Expertise

The Digital Product Passport initiative — led by Ecosystem, alongside Fnac Darty, Beko, and Arianee — has just welcomed Envie into the fold.

Envie specializes in the refurbishment, repair, and resale of electronic appliances. With over 50 locations across France, Envie is a critical link in the circular value chain — and ideally positioned to enrich DPPs where it matters most: during a product’s second life.

What Changes with Envie Onboard?

With Envie joining the project, Digital Product Passports are entering a new phase — one that goes beyond manufacturing to embrace refurbishment and resale. On the ground, Envie is now able to:

✅ Log key events such as refurbishment and resale when a DPP already exists, using secure on-chain timestamps
✅ Create a new DPP when one is missing, with the refurbishment process as the starting point in the product's history
✅ Affix a QR code to each product, giving access to reliable product information and history

This model was first tested with Darty on second-hand appliances, proving the viability of second-life traceability and laying the groundwork for this broader deployment.

Why This Matters

This initiative goes far beyond a simple technical integration. It signals a broader structural shift toward a decentralized, multi-actor data infrastructure — one where each player contributes to a more transparent data common.

By involving refurbishers directly in product traceability, the project helps build common data across Envie’s independent sites, overcoming the current fragmentation of their traceability systems. For the federation, this means gaining access to standardized data across its entire network — a powerful tool for steering and optimizing operations at scale.

On the ground, having access to a product’s full history makes diagnostics easier and refurbishment more efficient. This directly supports local teams in their day-to-day work and helps extend the lifespan of appliances — turning durability into something measurable and actionable.

For consumers, it brings greater transparency and confidence, even when buying second-hand. And ultimately, it demonstrates that Digital Product Passports can scale — not just in retail, but in the open and interconnected world of circular economy, where products change hands, contexts, and lifecycles.

The Bigger Picture: Building a Network of Traceability

Envie is just the beginning. The pilot is starting with this site, with the goal of progressively extending DPP creation and update capabilities to other Envie locations — and eventually to additional refurbishment partners.

This distributed model means the product’s history is not centralized but co-created, by every actor along its journey.

It’s not just about transparency. It’s about alignment, operational efficiency, and trust — at every step of the product’s lifecycle.

What’s Next?

  • Full deployment at Envie
  • More refurbishment and resale events added to passports
  • Feedback loops from refurbishers and on-the-ground operators
  • Planning for network-wide expansion to other Envie locations

Stay tuned — the passport is getting smarter with every use.
