Data architecture

3 DPP granularity levels

The Arianee API supports the three granularity levels recommended by the JRC145830 methodology. Choose the level suited to your products, balancing traceability, cost, and regulatory compliance.

Model Level

One DPP per product reference/model. Suited to identical mass-market products (basic t-shirts, light bulbs).

Cost: Minimal

Batch Level

One DPP per production batch. Relevant when composition or environmental footprint varies (textiles with different recycled %, batteries from a specific factory).

Cost: Balanced

Item Level

One DPP per individual item (serial number). Required for high-value products, unique lifecycle history, legally mandated traceability.

Cost: Maximum

Recommended hybrid approach

JRC145830 recommends a hybrid approach: static data at model level (specifications, composition, generalised environmental impact) + dynamic data at item level (repair history, refurbishment, ownership transfers).

The Arianee architecture supports multi-level referencing: an item passport can reference its batch or model passport, enabling efficient queries and flexible hierarchy.
