European regulations requiring a Digital Product Passport

Regulation (EU) 2024/1781 (ESPR) makes the Digital Product Passport mandatory for products sold in the EU from 2027. Arianee, the leading DPP provider in Europe, supports you for every regulation.

Beyond ESPR: a global wave of DPP regulations

The DPP is not limited to ESPR. The European Commission has adopted a coherent deployment strategy for the Digital Product Passport across several sector-specific regulations, covering batteries, toys, detergents, packaging, construction products and critical raw materials. This regulatory convergence creates a harmonised digital traceability framework for the whole industry.

What does this mean for your business?

  • Regulatory convergence: A coherent DPP framework is emerging across multiple regulations, beyond ESPR.
  • Staggered timeline: Battery Pass in 2027, packaging in 2028, construction in 2026. Strategic preparation is critical.
  • Single infrastructure: Arianee provides a unified DPP platform to address all these regulations.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Digital Product Passport (DPP)?
A Digital Product Passport is a structured set of data associated with a product, accessible via a unique identifier (QR code or NFC). It contains the sustainability, composition, repairability and end-of-life information required by European regulations, in particular ESPR (Regulation EU 2024/1781).
When does the DPP become mandatory?
The timeline varies by product category: the Battery Pass comes into force in February 2027, textiles in January 2027, electronics (EEE) in 2028, and furniture in 2029. Full coverage is planned for 2030.
Is my company affected by ESPR?
If you manufacture, import or distribute products in the European Union, you are potentially affected. ESPR progressively covers all product categories: batteries, textiles, EEE, furniture, automotive, and more.
What is the difference between ESPR and WEEE?
ESPR (Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation) is the general framework that mandates the DPP for all product categories. The WEEE Directive (2012/19/EU) specifically covers waste electrical and electronic equipment and imposes collection and recycling obligations.
